ABOUT OCYC SKATEBOARDING

Orange County Youth Commission Skateboarding : Making a Difference

Established in 2006, the Orange County Youth Commission (OCYC) Skateboarding division serves inner-city children and youth by providing after-school skateboarding activities on public school campuses and skate parks. Our staff’s primary focus is making a difference in the community. Our after-school skateboarding activities, known as MAD (Making a Difference) clubs, meet once a week at public school sites in Orange County’s low-income neighborhoods.

Directed by Richard Mulder, each MAD club Instructor is equipped to provide :
1. beginner, intermediate, and advanced skateboarding lessons & instructions
2. character education
3. academic tutoring and assistance

For the 2008-2009 school year we are currently active in our OCYC Skateboarding clubs at Carr Intermediate School and we are planning to release another club at new Godinez High School. If you skateboard and are interested in facilitating a OCYC Skateboarding Club at your community or school, please contact Isabel at isabel@ocyouthcom.org

OCYC Skateboarding after-school clubs is supported by generous donors and provided free of charge for the inner-city.

ABOUT | Orange County Youth Commission

Rosemarie Avila is the president and founder of the Orange County Youth Commission (OCYC). Youth in the inner-cities are living in poverty, amidst high crime and gang activity, exposure to the dangers of drugs, experiencing low academic performance and other serious challenges to their well-being. The OCYC was formed to bring guidance, faith, and resources to the children of the inner-city. With the vision to start after school programs for the inner-city children of Santa Ana and contend these issues, the organization was incorporated as a public benefit 501(c)3 non-profit organization in 2001.

Rosie has been recognized by the Santa Ana Parks and Recreation Commission for providing recreational activities for children and recently was appointed to serve on the City of Santa Ana Gang Prevention Intervention Commission. In addition to overseeing the OCYC, Rosie is currently serving her 16th year on the SAUSD Board of Education and is a Trustee at Biola University.
